New Mickler Memorial Reef is in the Water!
Published on August 14, 2025
OAR, CCA, FWC, and Walter Marine (Reefmaker) deployed the new Bill Mickler Memorial Reef on August 13, 2025, about 20 miles south of Dog Island in 65 feet of water. The deployment also included significant additions to the nearby Carl Enis Memorial Reef. In all, 129 tons of reef modules were deployed, consisting of 27 limestone and concrete modified tetrahedrons. The largest modules are 15 feet tall and weigh 15 tons each. OAR and FWC divers performed required monitoring and cleanup of drop lines. Expect marine flora, invertebrates, and fish of all sizes to call the new and expanded reefs their homes soon. Stay tuned here and on OAR’s Facebook page for more information. The GPS coordinates for the center of the reef are here.
